Benghazi – Following the discussions held by the General Commander of the Armed Forces with the Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Ms. Hanna Tetteh, the Deputy General Commander, General Saddam Haftar, held a meeting with the UN envoy and her accompanying delegation at the General Command headquarters.
During the meeting, they discussed the practical steps necessary to implement the roadmap presented by the UN mission in its briefing to the Security Council, working to overcome potential obstacles to its implementation, and exploring ways to support the peaceful path of the political process aimed at holding presidential and parliamentary elections in the country.
General Saddam Haftar also reviewed the efforts of the General Command to curb the flow of illegal immigration through cooperation and coordination with neighboring countries in the Mediterranean region. This is in addition to the arrangements made by the General Command to receive and shelter thousands of displaced Sudanese, especially in the city of Kufra, and to provide them with necessary healthcare. He noted that arrangements are being made for the return of the Sudanese to their country through official border crossings between the two nations, in direct coordination with the United Nations.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Ms. Hanna Serwaa Tetteh praised the efforts of the General Command of the Armed Forces and its prominent role in advancing the political process in Libya, commending the General Command’s handling of the illegal immigration file.
