Khaled Al-Meshri, chairman of Libya’s High Council of State (HCS), and Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, met in Rome today, where they held talks on the upcoming general elections in December 24, as well as, implementing ceasefire agreement.
According to a statement by the Italian foreign ministry, Di Maio reiterated “Italy’s convinced support” for the stabilization of Libya, and recalled “the urgency to define the constitutional and legal basis and to approve the electoral law, so that the elections can take place on the scheduled date of 24 December, allowing the Libyan people to vote.”
Di Maio also insisted upon “the urgent need to achieve full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, starting with the withdrawal of all foreign fighters and mercenaries from the country.”
