Italy needs “ever wider collaboration” on Libya given that the country is “one of the gates of the Mediterranean through which thousands and thousands of migrants pass,” said Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio on Thursday.
Speaking during the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Di Maio pointed out that “multilateralism” is required to avoid crises such as the ones in Syria and in Libya.
“Multilateralism at this moment must be strengthened,” affirmed the Italian diplomat who added that multilateralism “requires us to move forward on a reform of the Security Council of which Italy has always been a promoter”.
