Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs, met with his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf, on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The two sides discussed developments in Libya, a direct neighbor to both Egypt and Algeria, according to the media office of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Abdel Aty stressed the importance of supporting the Libyan-Libyan solution path, leading to holding presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously “as soon as possible.” He also emphasized the necessity for the withdrawal of all foreign forces, mercenaries, and foreign fighters from Libya to achieve the aspirations of the Libyan people.
The Egyptian minister highlighted the importance of the regular convening of meetings of the tripartite mechanism for Libya’s neighboring countries (Egypt–Algeria–Tunisia), as it contributes to achieving stability and preserving Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
