Escalation of violence in Mexico after the killing of the most dangerous drug lord

Mexico City – Mexico is experiencing a wave of violence. This follows the killing of drug cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera. He was known as “El Mencho.” The “Jalisco New Generation” cartel leader was killed by the army last Sunday. Armed supporters blocked highways in several states. They set cars and businesses on fire. This caused panic among residents and tourists. Authorities in some cities urged citizens to stay home. Truck drivers were instructed to use safe routes. They could also return to their workplaces. This was advised until the escalating violence subsides. The violence has affected transportation and movement.

Following these events, international airlines canceled flights. Air Canada, United Airlines, and Mexican Airlines were among them. Flights to Puerto Vallarta were affected. This is a coastal resort. Tourists there saw thick smoke plumes from the fires. This caused astonishment and concern among vacationers. They documented the scenes on their mobile phones. Cartel members confirmed these retaliatory operations. They were a response to their leader’s killing by the government. They warned of more internal violence. This violence would be between groups seeking to expand their influence. This foreshadows a new phase of bloody conflict in Mexico.

On the Pacific coast, vacationers in Puerto Vallarta were stunned. The location is a five-hour drive from the military operation in Tapalpa. Authorities monitored attacks on military police bases. Some roads were closed. Public transport services were suspended. Video clips showed roadblocks. A green tank navigated a residential neighborhood. This was in Aguascalientes state. It highlighted intense military activity against organized crime. Industrial groups urged truck drivers to stay in safe areas. They advised this until conditions improve. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that daily activities continue normally. This is true across most of the country. This occurs despite the limited wave of violence. She warned against excessive fear among citizens.

“El Mencho” was the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Mexican drug cartel. He was one of the most wanted criminals in Mexico and globally. Oseguera was born and raised in Jalisco state. He rose in the world of organized crime from a young age. He used intelligence and brutality to expand his cartel’s influence. He was known for controlling drug trafficking into the United States. He imposed control over vast areas. He was involved in widespread violence. This included eliminating rivals. He also threatened public security. His name became synonymous with violence and organized crime in Mexico.

His criminal activities focused on various drug trafficking. This included cocaine, hashish, and methamphetamine. He extorted local merchants. He carried out revenge killings against opponents. These targets were both inside and outside the cartel. He organized a vast cross-border smuggling network. He engaged in financial and commercial corruption. This bolstered the cartel’s power. He became a target for Mexican and U.S. authorities. Anti-drug campaigns led to his death in a military operation.
