Chicago – Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker demanded a refund from President Donald Trump. Pritzker, a Democrat, heads a campaign that issued a letter to President Trump on Friday. The letter included an invoice for $8.68 billion. This action follows a Supreme Court ruling on Friday. The ruling canceled comprehensive customs duties imposed by President Trump. This represents a significant loss for a crucial part of his economic agenda.
Pritzker is considered a rival for the 2028 presidential election. He has frequently clashed with the President. Pritzker wrote in the letter: “Your tariffs have caused chaos among farmers. They have angered allies. They have significantly raised grocery prices. This morning, your chosen Supreme Court justices informed you. These duties are also unconstitutional.”
The invoice is marked “overdue.” It calculates the cost of the duties at $1,700 per household for the state’s 5.11 million households. This totals $8,679,261,600. Pritzker stated that non-payment would lead to “further action.”
