The European Union’s Operation IRINI has completed its first training program for 30 Libyan maritime officials from both Tripoli and Benghazi.
The training, hosted by Italy at the Italian Navy Training Center in Taranto, was described by EU Ambassador to Libya Nicola Orlando as an “important step” in the EU-Libya partnership.
The initiative aims to promote the unification of Libya’s military institutions by building on shared capabilities and operational standards.
Operation IRINI announced it will continue enhancing Libya’s capacities in the coming months with an intensive training programme focused on increasing operational effectiveness and upholding international maritime law.
