The Libyan Prime Minister forms a national committee to monitor prison conditions

Benghazi – Libyan Prime Minister Osama Hammad issued a decision on Thursday. It forms a temporary national committee. This committee will monitor the conditions of prisoners and prisons. It will report to the Council of Ministers. Its mandate includes overseeing detention centers. It will also monitor correctional facilities nationwide.

The Libyan government clarified the decision’s purpose. It aims to review the conditions of prisoners and detainees. It will verify the legality of procedures. It will ensure no detentions occur outside the judicial framework. The committee will also monitor judicial rulings. It will track release orders issued by competent authorities.

The government added that the committee will identify any shortcomings or violations. It will submit periodic reports to the Council of Ministers. These reports will include findings and necessary recommendations. It will emphasize applying national and international human rights standards. These apply within correctional and rehabilitation institutions.

The government affirmed this decision is part of its efforts. It aims to reinforce the rule of law. It seeks to protect rights and freedoms. It will also establish principles of justice. This will contribute to developing Libya’s justice and reform system.
