A Libyan court has sentenced a man to death by firing squad. He was convicted in the killing of protesters in Tripoli’s Ghargour area in 2013.
The Tripoli Criminal Court issued the verdict. The Public Prosecution confirmed the court’s proceedings. It completed investigations into a lawsuit against the defendant. The defendant was identified by the initials A.M.A.D. He was a perpetrator in the protester killings. The court imposed the death penalty by firing squad for these homicides.
The court also sentenced him to five years in prison. This was for unauthorized possession of weapons and ammunition. He was also convicted of using these weapons. They were used to prevent protesters from demonstrating.
The prosecuting authority referred the verdict to a specialized judicial division. This division handles death penalty judgments. The investigative authority renewed arrest warrants. These warrants target other individuals wanted in the case. Efforts are underway to apprehend them.
