Field visit to Sabratha to discuss combating leishmaniasis and the safe disposal of medical waste

An official from the General Administration for Environmental Sanitation visited Sabratha Municipality. This official is responsible for health prevention and public health pest control. The visit followed instructions from the Director-General of the General Administration for Environmental Sanitation. It aimed to discuss mechanisms for combating Leishmaniasis.

It also covered the safe disposal of medical waste. This initiative responded to a request from the Mayor of Sabratha. The Mayor had called for immediate intervention. He also requested urgent measures to limit the disease’s spread. This information comes from the media office of the Ministry of Local Governance.

A Coordination Meeting with the Municipality and Relevant Authorities.
The meeting included the official from the General Administration for Environmental Sanitation. The Mayor of Sabratha was also present. A municipal council member, tasked with environmental sanitation and public hygiene, attended. The director of the municipal environmental sanitation department participated. The head of the health affairs section was also there.

National Plan and Support with Necessary Equipment.
Correspondence on the matter was reviewed and discussed. An agreement was reached on the need for a national plan. This plan aims to combat cutaneous Leishmaniasis in the region. Support for the municipal environmental sanitation department was also agreed upon. This includes providing necessary equipment and tools for combating the disease.

Safe Disposal of Medical Waste.
Agreement was also reached on following approved methods for safe medical waste disposal. This will occur under the supervision of relevant municipal departments.
