The Tripoli Teachers Syndicate has expressed its strong condemnation of the recent statements made by the Government of National Unity’s acting Minister of Education, Ali Al-Abed, which included accusations that some teachers use narcotic substances. The Syndicate described the remarks as an “unjustified insult that affects the dignity of teachers and their status in society.”
In a statement on Thursday, the Syndicate said these remarks are a “serious transgression” against a segment that represents the fundamental pillar of the educational process, considering that such accusations “tarnish the image of the teacher and shake the community’s trust in educational institutions.”
The Syndicate called on Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh to immediately dismiss the minister from his duties, stressing that an apology is not sufficient to restore the state’s symbolism and the teacher’s prestige. It also urged the Attorney General to open an investigation into the incident and hold the minister accountable for his statements, which it described as “public defamation.”
In concluding its statement, the Syndicate affirmed its commitment to defending the dignity of teachers and its rejection of any offense against them, calling on the Ministry of Education to support its staff instead of insulting them.
