General Al-Nadhouri Tells Richardson Libya Rejects Any Attempts to Settle Migrants

Benghazi – Libyan National Security Advisor Gen. Abdelrazek Al-Nadhouri met with Ulrika Richardson, the United Nations Deputy Special Representative and Resident Humanitarian Coordinator in Libya, at the council headquarters in Benghazi. The meeting included representatives from several UN agencies working in the country and focused on ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination between Libyan institutions and UN organizations.

Discussions covered the role of UN agencies in Libya and the organization of their operations in line with national laws and policies. Participants also addressed migration issues and the involvement of the UN Refugee Agency and International Organization for Migration.

The meeting emphasized the importance of national security and respect for Libyan sovereignty. Al-Nadhouri reiterated Libya’s categorical rejection of any attempts to settle migrants or refugees inside the country. He stressed that international organizations and their staff must comply with Libyan laws and respect local customs.

Richardson denied reports of any plans to resettle migrants in Libya or the issuance of any official statements undermining Libya’s sovereignty. She expressed her readiness to cooperate with any official investigation into related claims.

Both sides discussed using UN expertise to help build Libyan institutional capacity and support the country’s response to crises and emergencies. They agreed on the importance of continued coordination and cooperation to serve Libyan national interests and strengthen state institutions.
