During his meeting with the Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohammed Al-Huwaij, in Tripoli, the German Ambassador to Libya, Michael Ohnmacht, affirmed the desire of German companies to expand cooperation with the Libyan private sector and participate in the reconstruction and economic development plans of the Government of National Unity.
For his part, Al-Huwaij highlighted the importance of the Libyan-German Economic Forum scheduled for May 2024 in Tripoli and its role in strengthening ties between economic and commercial institutions in both countries. He also directed the provision of all necessary facilities for Libyan and German businesspeople and companies to participate in the forum’s activities.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Economy, the meeting discussed the ongoing preparations for the Libyan-German Economic Forum, with the participation of businesspeople and investors from both countries. Additionally, the economic and trade cooperation file between Libya and Germany was reviewed, along with ways to strengthen relations and networking between the private sectors in areas of mutual interest.
The importance of the forum in enhancing economic and trade ties between the two countries was emphasized, and the Foreign Trade and International Cooperation departments were directed to strengthen cooperation with the commercial office at the German Embassy and coordinate with relevant entities to ensure successful preparations for the forum.
On his part, the German Ambassador affirmed his country’s support for contributing to achieving economic stability in Libya and enhancing trade and investment relations. He pointed to the desire of German companies to open up avenues of cooperation with the Libyan private sector and participate in the implementation of the Government of National Unity’s reconstruction and economic development plan.
