The Libyan Public Prosecution has imprisoned officials at the Housing Ministry of the former Government of National Accord (GNA), on charges of committing crimes of embezzlement of public money, laundering, abuse of position for the purpose of achieving material benefit, and the use of forged official documents for the purpose of covering documentary cycle for managing a bank account.
Attorney General’s office said in statement Monday that the defendants were the former undersecretary and director of the Administrative and Financial Affairs Department; the financial controller; and Director of the Internal Audit Department at the Ministry.
The statement indicated that the investigations of the Public Prosecution revealed that the employees facilitated a task for a Palestinian national in seizing a sum of money estimated at 1,800,000 dinars (about $360,000), and in return they obtained part of the amount after disguising its source and the rights related to it.
