The Libyan Government headed by Osama Hammad announced plans to distribute financial compensation to victims of last month’s devastating floods in the coastal Al-Sahel municipality by the end of this week.
According to a government statement on Monday the census and compensation committee has agreed to begin disbursing relief funds to residents impacted by the floods no later than this weekend.
Distribution of the emergency compensation will be handled through the municipality Mayor’s office n coordination with local committees established in Al-Sahel and the state’s General Authority for Endowments, the statement noted.
In addition to Derna city, Al-Sahel was among the hardest hit regions across Libya during the floods and torrential rains in September. The disaster killed thousands and inflicted severe damage on homes and infrastructure.
The planned compensation program marks a key step in assisting survivors to recover losses and rebuild after the catastrophe. Authorities have been working to assess needs and provide urgent relief across flood-ravaged areas.
