Abdul Rahman Al-Shater, member of Libya’s High Council of State, said that recent moves by armed groups loyal to Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah “stem from popular support”.
Al-Shater said that these armed groups “refuse to abuse the higher interest of the country in favor of people who want to seize power in unconstitutional ways.”
On Saturday, armed groups have rallied in the country’s capital to support Dbeibah’s claim to legitimacy as the head of the Libyan government after the parliament named Fathi Bashagha as new interim leader.
