Health Ministry and WHO Discuss Support for Tuberculosis Services at Al-Kuweifiya Hospital

Benghazi – A delegation from the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization conducted a field visit to Al-Kuifiya Specialized Teaching Hospital for Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis to discuss ways to support and develop tuberculosis control services and assess the hospital’s needs for improving patient care.

The hospital’s director general, Dr. Ayoub Al-Shikhi, welcomed the delegation. The meeting included representatives from the Ministry of Health, the Health Services Administration, the Department of International Cooperation, and the director of the National Center for Disease Control in Benghazi.

During the visit, the team toured several hospital departments and reviewed procedures for delivering medical, diagnostic, and treatment services to tuberculosis patients. They also listened to a presentation on the main challenges facing the hospital and its requirements for improving performance and the quality of services.

Hospital administrators highlighted recent efforts and achievements in tuberculosis control, as well as future plans to enhance diagnosis, treatment, and prevention programs to limit the disease’s spread.

Dr. Al-Shikhi said the visit aimed to support the hospital and identify its real needs. He noted that the meeting addressed obstacles to providing care for tuberculosis patients and discussed ways to secure the technical and logistical support needed to improve health services.

He stressed that collaboration between the Ministry of Health, the National Center for Disease Control, and the World Health Organization is essential for developing tuberculosis control programs in Libya. He emphasized the importance of continued joint coordination to improve the quality of healthcare and strengthen efforts to prevent and control the disease.
