Benghazi– In a development reflecting the changing dynamics of the Libyan landscape, the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, received the head of the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MİT), İbrahim Kalın, at his office in the General Command headquarters in the Ar-Rajma area of Benghazi.
This high-level meeting marks a significant step in the course of relations between Turkey and the General Command of the Armed Forces in eastern Libya, which had experienced tensions in past years due to Ankara’s support for the Government of National Unity in Tripoli.

According to information released by the General Command, the meeting included an in-depth discussion on ways to enhance mutual cooperation between the two countries in various fields. The statement noted that both sides reviewed “the remarkable development in relations in a way that serves their common interests,” signaling a potential positive shift in bilateral ties.
The meeting also addressed regional files of common interest, chief among them the issue of illegal immigration. The two parties discussed ways to tackle this phenomenon in a manner that promotes regional security and stability.

Kalın’s visit to Benghazi and his meeting with Haftar are seen as an indication of Turkey’s efforts to expand its channels of communication with all active parties in Libya, as part of its pursuit of a more comprehensive role in the Libyan file. This visit comes within the context of broader regional diplomatic activity aimed at finding political solutions to the ongoing Libyan crisis.
