State Council member Adel Karmous said that the state of lawlessness in Libya and the control of armed groups over even political decisions has become clear to every observer of the Libyan situation, stressing that the government is currently seeking to assert its control and end interference in its affairs.
Karmous explained in a statement to the Sputnik agency that the influence of armed groups and their interference in political decisions has made clashes with them inevitable from time to time, explaining that in the past, conflicts were between the armed formations themselves, but today, the government has adopted an approach of controlling them, which some parties reject.
Karmous criticized the role of the United Nations, considering its influence on security issues to be weak, as it is content with calling for restraint. He stressed that the internationally recognized government bears the responsibility for maintaining the security and safety of citizens under Chapter VII.
He also described the Egyptian role as positive, affirming its contribution to achieving rapprochement between the Libyan parties, pointing out that the currently available path is that of the UN mission, which is being worked on positively.
Karmous expressed his hope to reach a unified government that imposes its control over the entire Libyan territory before holding the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
