The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) has warned the residents of the western town of Khoms to expect more hours of power cuts after the town’s power plant lost 400 megawatts due to low gas pressure.
Following the incident, GECOL explained that production units were able to generate only 5,650 megawatts despite having power demand of 7,030 megawatts. This resulted in a deficit of 1620 megawatts, which forced the company to cut power for a number of hours.
GECOL called on Khoms’ residents to adhere to sensible consumption of electricity in order to minimize the deficit.
