Sokna – Renovation work has begun at Al-Weshka Dam. It is located in the Al-Sawda Mountains, Al-Jufra region, Sokna. This follows over fifteen years of neglect. The work is part of a comprehensive volunteer campaign. Many local residents and philanthropists participated. The goal is to revive this vital facility. It will become a natural recreation area for residents and visitors.
Bashir Ali Keita coordinated the volunteer campaign. He oversees Al-Weshka Dam and other natural and tourist sites. Keita stated that the work included painting the dam. Solar-powered lighting detectors were installed along its path. Forty palm frond shades were built for visitors’ comfort. Keita made this statement to the Libyan News Agency.
Keita also noted the campaign involved preparing separate bathrooms. These facilities are for women and men. A guard room was built to enhance organization and security. Several wild animals were released. These included birds, fish, and rabbits. This supports ecological balance. It helps revive the natural environment around the dam.
A 20,000-liter water tank was prepared for visitors. Work continues to dig a water well. This well will support afforestation campaigns. It will help preserve the dam’s surrounding environment. This is for both the short and long term.
The campaign coordinator affirmed efforts are still in early stages. He hopes Al-Weshka Dam will become a national model. He also hopes it will be a distinct desert tourist destination. This will serve the region. It will also promote a culture of volunteerism. He called on citizens to preserve this public facility. He urged support for the continuation of volunteer campaigns. This will benefit the region. It will serve the public good.
