Tripoli – The first meeting of the Euro-Maghreb Center for Research and Strategic Studies’ research group commenced today. It was held at the Libyan Higher Academy for Strategic Studies. This meeting focuses on research management for 2026. It addresses regional issues for countries on both sides of the Western Mediterranean. Libya supervises this initiative. The meeting is part of the scheduled research activities within Libyan programs. It aligns with the 2026 multilateral work plan. This plan is for the 5+5 Defense initiative.
Attendees included the Secretary-General of the Libyan Army’s General Staff. The President of the Libyan Higher Academy for Strategic Studies was also present. The Director of the National Defense College attended. The Director of the Libya Center for Strategic Studies and Research participated. The Secretary-General of the Euro-Maghreb Center for Research and Strategic Studies also joined. Representatives from the Ministry of Defense were there. A group of researchers representing 5+5 Defense initiative member states participated. These states are Algeria, France, Italy, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, and Tunisia.
The meeting’s agenda focused on ‘Artificial Intelligence and its Impact on the 5+5 Defense Space – Threats and New Prospects’. It included a presentation by the Secretary-General of the Euro-Maghreb Center for Research and Strategic Studies. A presentation on Artificial Intelligence was also given. Participants agreed on the main chapters and sub-sections of the research topic. They also assigned roles, responsibilities, and a timeline for completing the research phases.
