Khaled al-Mishri, Chairman of Libya’s High Council of State, and Fawzi Al-Nuwairi, Acting Speaker of Parliament, met on Saturday in Tripoli, where they discussed “constitutional path and ways to accelerate the course of the electoral process,” according to a statement by the council.
During the meeting, the two expressed their “rejection of foreign interference in Libyan affairs” and they emphasized “national ownership of the political process” through “direct dialogue”.
Originally set for December 24 last year, the Libyan presidential elections were postponement by the parliament, which claimed that logistical and security reasons are behind the delay.
Prior to the postponement, Al-Mishri has publicly stated that he is against holding the elections under the laws issued by the parliament, which he deemed to be flawed.
