Libya elections are very important to US, says State Department

The goal of the United States is for Libya to achieve a stable sovereignty free from foreign interference, said Ned Price, the U.S. State Department spokesman, a press conference in Washington yesterday.

Price underlined that his country wants a democratic government in Libya that supports human rights and is able to face terrorist threats.

“Holding free and fair elections is very important to us and we will continue to work and support them alongside the international community to help the Libyan people achieve their aspirations”, continued Price, highlighting the need for the Libyan political leaders to reach compromise regarding the dispute over elections laws.
