The Libyan fencing team has decided to withdraw from the Fencing World Championships in protest against Israel whose team is also participating in the Dubai-held competition.
The Libyan team had achieved very good results and reached the semifinal round of the contest. It is also ranked second in Africa and 19 globally in the classification of the game.
However, the team left the competition so that it won’t have to face the Israeli team in the final round, which is in line with Libya’s opposition to normalization of ties with Israel due to its occupation of Palestinian territories
