Libyan Audit Bureau and US Agency for International Development discuss improving oil sector oversight

Khaled Shakshak, the head of Libya’s Audit Bureau, met with a delegation from the US Agency for International Development to discuss ways to improve efficiency in auditing, particularly in the oversight of extractive industries and investment. The meeting, which took place on Wednesday evening, included discussions on plans for developing the Audit Bureau through a partnership with the US agency.

During the meeting, Shakshak and the US delegation discussed plans for developing the Audit Bureau through a partnership, focusing on institutional and professional development, strategic planning, human resources systems, audit guidelines, digital transformation, and professional certifications. The two sides also discussed the importance of continued support through practical and model implementation tasks under the supervision of specialized experts.

The US delegation praised the Audit Bureau’s efforts in development and building, and its role in enhancing accountability and transparency. They expressed a desire to push these efforts towards meeting the requirements of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions.
