The Libyan High National Elections Commission (HNEC) signed on Thursday a memorandum of understanding with the European Center for Electoral Support (ECES), as part of the two parties’ efforts “to promote democratic values and cooperate in the areas of electoral integrity and reduce electoral violence,” according to HNEC.
“The memorandum aims to strengthen election management based on the expertise and resources owned by both partners, and invest them in developing capacities in the field of monitoring and media training against electoral violence, and promoting peaceful mediation and community dialogue based on trust and human rights,” HNEC said in a statement today.
“It also aims to provide advisory and logistical support and developing information technologies and supportive applications for electoral awareness,” the statement pointed out.
HNEC Chairman, Imad al-Sayeh, signed on behalf of the Commission, while ECES Founder Executive Director, Fabio Bargiacchi, signed on behalf of the European Center, in the presence of a group of international experts in the field of elections.
ECES is an international organization specialized in supporting elections, headquartered in Brussels.
