In a joint press conference between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, both leaders stressed the importance of coordination and cooperation between their countries to support efforts aimed at achieving stability in Libya.
Erdogan stated, “I, along with the Egyptian President, do not want to see conflict and instability in Libya. I fully support, together with Sisi, the unity and territorial integrity of Libya, and we are in contact at all levels to ensure peace and stability there.”
For his part, Sisi said during the press conference, “I emphasized with President Erdogan the necessity of enhancing consultation between our countries regarding the Libyan file. We focused on the need to assist in holding presidential and legislative elections and unifying the country’s military institution.”
The Egyptian President indicated that “our success in achieving security and political stability in Libya will set a model to be emulated,” clarifying that “the countries of the region are the most capable of understanding its complexities and ways to resolve existing disputes.”
Erdogan also affirmed that Turkey and its neighbor Egypt “are determined to coordinate and cooperate on African issues, especially in Libya and Sudan.”
This agreement between the Turkish and Egyptian leaderships comes within the framework of joint efforts by the two countries and regional and international partners to push the political process in Libya towards achieving stability and security in the country and holding comprehensive elections.
