Libyan human traffickers live in the palaces of power

22 Syrian migrants on hunger strike in Libyan prison

Italian press report confirmed that interest in the democratic process in Libya is losing momentum, after more than 10 years of conflict.

The Italian newspaper, The Globalist, said in a report that Libya has turned into a political quagmire and left its population at the mercy of the ambitions and hegemony of international players.

Western countries fear that Russia will strengthen its influence in Libya, through non-neutral interference in the elections, as there are fears that Moscow will not support the elections plan brokered by the United Nations.

It added that human traffickers in Libya live in the palaces of power and participate in illegal activities such as trade in arms, fuel and drugs.

Italy, Malta, Turkey and the European Union bear responsibility for violations inside detention centers in Libya, the Globalist reported.

The money provided by Italy and the European Union to Libya does not lead to the promotion of human rights, according to the newspaper.

Detainees are subjected to torture, sexual violence and extortion, in addition to suffering from serious diseases due to lack of access to the necessary medical care, it added.
