Press sources deny closure of El-Feel oilfield

Libya's National Oil Company said Monday it had restarted production at Al-Fil oil field, closed since January by the forces of eastern military strongman Khalifa Haftar. The NOC's announcement came a day after output resumed at Al-Sharara oil field, the country's largest, following a string of victories against Haftar by forces backing Libya's Tripoli-based unity government. The Mellitah Oil & Gas Company has successfully re-drilled the 5th well “FB-21HOR-ST2” in the Elephant Field, completing and testing it with a production capacity of around 3,820 barrels of oil per day.

This was stated in an announcement by the National Oil Corporation, in which the chairman and board members commended the operating committee and all employees of Mellitah Oil & Gas Company who contributed to achieving this work.

Elephant Field

The Elephant Field is located in the Murzuq Basin in southwestern Libya. Until 2007, it contained more than 1.2 billion barrels of reserves, making it the largest oil field in the Murzuq Basin. Its production capacity is 125,000 barrels per day.
