A Libyan political party, led by former president of parliament Nouri Abusahmain, proposed holding parliamentary elections before the presidential elections.
Awad Abdel Sadiq, chairman of the political office of Ya Beladi party, told reporters on Saturday said that his party has a vision to bring the country out of its current political turmoil which occurred after the elections, originally set for December 24, was abruptly cancelled.
According to Abdel Sadiq, his party’s vision to have the newly elected parliament choose to either form a new interim government or keep the current one led by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh.
He said the new parliament and interim government would organize a referendum on the constitution followed by presidential elections.
Abdel Sadiq did not specify a timeline for his party’s political plan.
