Libya’s High Council of State has called on the Attorney-General Al-Siddiq Al-Sour to publicly release the results of his office’s investigation into the meeting between Libyan Foreign Minister Najla Mangoush and her Israeli counterpart Eli Cohen.
The council convened a “consultative session” in Tripoli on Sunday to discuss “the repercussions” of Mangoush’s meeting with Cohen, according to a statement by the council.
Last Sunday, Cohen revealed that he had sat down with his Libyan counterpart in Italy. His disclosure of the meeting sparked outrage in Libya, and Mangoush lost her job and fled the country.
The High Council of State said it condemns “any contact” with Israel, which the council referred to as “the Zionist entity” in its statement. It also pointed out that such contact is criminalized under Libyan law.
The council demanded a “speedy publication of details of the investigations into this case”. It also called for holding “the individuals involved” accountable.
