Libyan Minister of Local Government Badreddine al-Toumi said that after activating the directorates and empowering them with their competencies, 18 districts were established.
Al-Toumi added in a press conference that each district has 11 directorates that carry out the tasks of ministries within the district.
The Minister indicated that the district system may be helpful in holding the parliamentary elections next June with a phased system in case the process falters at a particular place.
He pointed out that citizens no longer need to go to ministries, as the directorates within their districts will provide them with services.
