Benghazi – The Libyan Arab Armed Forces have announced the death of Major General Fawzi Al-Mansouri, director of military intelligence, who was assassinated after a sticky bomb was placed in his car following evening prayers at a mosque.
In a statement, Major General Khaled Al-Mahjoub, director of moral guidance for the armed forces, described Al-Mansouri as one of the heroes of Operation Dignity who fought terrorism and helped defeat it.
Al-Mahjoub said the attack recalled a wave of assassinations targeting officers and prominent figures across Libya in 2013 and 2014. He called the killing “a desperate attempt to undermine the security enjoyed by areas under the army’s control.”
He stressed that such crimes would not deter the armed forces from their mission to protect Libya’s security and eradicate terrorism wherever it exists. He offered condolences to Al-Mansouri’s family and colleagues and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.
