Benghazi – The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, received in his office at the General Command headquarters in Benghazi, the European Union Ambassador to Libya, Mr. Nicola Orlando, the Commander of the EU Naval Operation (IRINI), Admiral Marco Casapieri, and the Head of the European Union Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM), Mr. Jan Vyčítal.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, and the Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on local and regional developments and discussed ways to combat illegal migration, human trafficking networks, and drug smuggling.
The Commander-in-Chief emphasized the importance of the European Union’s role in supporting regional security and stability, and its impact on the countries of the region.
For their part, the visiting delegation praised the General Command’s efforts in achieving security and stability in Libya and securing land and maritime borders. The meeting concluded with both parties affirming the continuation of efforts aimed at achieving permanent stability in Libya.
