Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Armed Forces, officially inaugurated a transformative housing project west of Benghazi on Saturday. The initiative, which involves the construction and completion of 20,000 housing units, is considered the largest undertaking of its kind in Libya’s housing and urban development sector.
According to the General Command of the Libyan Armed Forces, the project will be implemented under the supervision of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund. It aims to revitalize the region’s infrastructure and elevate living standards for local residents.
In addition to housing, the development will feature essential community facilities, including mosques, schools, and hospitals. The plan also encompasses commercial centers, high-rise office towers, sports clubs, and a cultural center, creating a comprehensive urban environment.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by key political figures, including Prime Minister Osama Hamad, Belgassim Khalifa, Director-General of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund, as well as members of the House of Representatives and cabinet ministers from the Libyan government.
This ambitious project is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting reconstruction efforts and boosting economic growth in eastern Libya. It underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing public services and advancing sustainable urban development.
