The Stability and Support Militia, led by Gniwah Al-Kikli, announced on Thursday that it is intervening to quell the armed clashes at the Ras Ajdir border crossing with Tunisia. The militia pledged to pursue those responsible for undermining security and attacking state security forces stationed at the frontier post under the Interior Ministry’s authority.
In a terse statement, the militia said its Zuwara-Ras Jdir office has deployed to “break up the armed clash occurring at the crossing, which led to the suspension of passenger movement on both sides.”
“The office pledges to pursue all those involved in undermining security through clashes with the state’s security forces at the crossing,” the statement added.
Earlier on Thursday, Acting Interior Minister Imad Al-Trabulsi of the Government of National Unity ordered the withdrawal of troops securing the Ras Ajdir border post citing concerns over the “mobilization of outlaw armed groups” with light and medium weapons in the area, which caused the vital border crossing to slip out of control.
