Mixed Migration Centre: 88% of illegal migrants arriving in Italy came from Libya

Mixed Migration Centre: 88% of illegal migrants arriving in Italy came from Libya

The international organization ‘Mixed Migration Centre’ issued a quarterly update on the movement of irregular migrants from North African countries during the third quarter of 2025. According to what was monitored and translated on Libyan affairs by ‘Al Marsad newspaper‘, Italy recorded the arrival of 49,799 migrants by September 28, a 1% increase compared to 2024 and a 2% decrease from the second quarter of the same year.

Departures from Libya
The update showed that most arrivals (88%) continued to depart from Libya, despite a recorded 8% decrease in the number of departures from the country, according to the previous statistic referenced in the report.

Increase in arrivals to ‘Crete’ Island
The update also indicated an increase in the number of arrivals to the island of ‘Crete’ from Libya, reaching 13,059 by September 28, an increase of 318% compared to the same period last year.
