The National Development Agency announced on Thursday the continuation of reconstruction work on the Cordoba Mosque in the Third Residential District of Sirte. This is part of the comprehensive reconstruction plans supervised by the agency, after it was determined that the old building’s foundations were dilapidated and that its maintenance was futile.
The agency explained that the project is part of its focus on developing houses of worship and Quran memorization centers, given their spiritual and societal value. It emphasized that the mosque’s reconstruction is being carried out in a modern, integrated architectural style, consistent with Libya’s 2030 Vision for urban development.
The agency noted the national symbolism of the Cordoba Mosque, which witnessed the start of the confrontation against the terrorist organization ISIS in Sirte. The imam and a number of worshipers were martyred on its steps in defense of their religion and homeland, leaving the mosque as a testament to resilience and a memory of sacrifice.
The National Development Agency affirmed that the project is a tribute to those sacrifices and a continuation of its efforts to support platforms of faith and consolidate the values of spiritual and social construction, in parallel with reconstruction projects in various regions of the country.
