NCDC: Data indicates Delta variant of COVID-19 entered Libya

Badr Al-Din Al-Najjar, the Director of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), revealed on Wednesday that initial data indicates that the Delta variant of COVID-19 has entered Libya.

In press statement, Al-Najjar said that the latest increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, by 31% in a short period, is a preliminary indication that the variant has entered the country.

The NCDC director warned that quarantine centers may not have enough capacity to receive large number of cases.

The NCDC announced earlier today that 1,384 new cases of the Coronavirus were recorded on Wednesday, the highest toll per day in over months.

Libya has recorded over 199,000 cases of the virus since the start of the pandemic in March last year, over 180,000 of which have recovered. Death toll of the virus have reached 3,227 in total, while over 393,000 people were vaccinated.
