The National Commission for Human Rights in Libya (NCHRL) has condemned the kidnapping of Ali Mohamed Saber, the former head of the Libyan General Taekwondo Federation.
Saber, who is also candidate for the presidency of Libya’s Olympic Committee, was abducted near his house in Tripoli by unknown gunmen on Thursday.
NCHRL indicated in its statement that Saber’s abduction is related to his Olympic Committee’s candidacy as the vote for electing new committee president is scheduled to be held in few days.
NCHRL called on the Ministry of Interior and the relevant security services to “intensify search and investigation efforts to reveal his fate, and work to release him”.
It also called on the Office of the Attorney-General to open a “comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of the incident and to ensure that the perpetrators are prosecuted and brought to justice.”
