ABUJA – Extremism and terrorism could spread in west Africa and the Sahel if foreign fighters in Libya are expelled without disarming them, warned the Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari raised the issue in Ghana during his speech during the 59th summit of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) held on Saturday.
The Nigerian president pointed out that neighboring countries should develop ways to contain or manage the movements of these fighters. He also underscored the need to coordinate with regional stakeholders on this issue.
