Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Saturday arrested a suspect involved in smuggling people to Libya, including those who had died in shipwreck earlier this year.
The FIA stated that the suspect was trying to flee to Azerbaijan while he was offloaded from the flight and arrested. “A case was registered at the FIA Anti-Human Trafficking Circle, Gujrat against the suspect and he was handed over to authorities,” the FIA added.
On the other hand, the authority also started operation against the network in Mirpur and arrested 9 suspects, DIG Dr Khalid Chauhan said. “As many as 26 people, out of 298 died in Greece shipwreck, belonged to Mirpur,” he added.
Earlier, several Pakistanis had drowned off the Libyan coast in the Mediterranean sea this year in February and April.
