The committee formed by a decision of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, tasked with monitoring and documenting the situations of Libyans imprisoned abroad, held a discussion.
During its meeting on Monday at the headquarters of the House of Representatives’ Diwan, the committee addressed the identification of prisoners’ detention locations and their legal and humanitarian conditions.
The meeting reviewed the files and cases related to Libyans detained outside the country, with the participation of House of Representatives members Al-Salihin Abdul Nabi, Ahmed Al-Sharif, Mohammed Al-Waer, and Mrs. Kamel Al-Yaqoubi.
The meeting concluded with an agreement on several practical steps, most notably the creation of an accurate database that includes the prisoners’ names, their places of detention, and the details of the cases against them. This will be done through direct coordination with official government bodies and the Attorney General’s office.
It was also decided to assign a legal entity to join the committee to support legal aspects and official procedures, in addition to coordinating with Libyan embassies abroad to ensure that prisoners’ rights are monitored and that necessary assistance is provided to them on all legal and humanitarian levels.
The meeting also approved the preparation of a progress report to be submitted to the Speaker of the House of Representatives within two weeks of the meeting date, as well as establishing a schedule for regular follow-up meetings to take necessary measures quickly and effectively to ensure the protection of the rights of Libyans imprisoned abroad and to improve their legal and humanitarian conditions.
