Libya’s Presidential Council wants to achieve “the aspiration of 2.8 million Libyan voters to hold free, transparent and fair democratic elections,” said Mohamed al-Menfi, the council’s chairman, on Friday.
Al-Menfi’s remarks came after the U.N. advisor on Libya, Stephanie Williams, unveiled a new mediation plan which will bring together House of Representatives and the High Council of State (HCS) to form a “joint committee dedicated to developing a consensual constitutional basis”.
The Libyan politician welcomed the U.N. plan as he believes that “a political dialogue will establish elections within a consensual constitutional basis.”
