The Justice and Construction Party (JCP), a political party associated with the Libyan Muslim Brotherhood, has urged the House of Representatives and the High Council of State (HCS) on a new UN-sponsored mediation plan to facilitate the development of a consensual constitutional basis for the long-delayed elections.
In a statement, JCP also urged the U.N. Mission in Libya to “place consensus at the top of its priorities” while “addressing the causes that led to the failure of holding elections on time”.
JCP called for ending the transitional period in Libya by holding “free, fair and transparent elections as soon as possible”.
On Friday, the U.N. advisor on Libya, Stephanie Williams, unveiled a new mediation plan which will bring together the House of Representatives and the High Council of State (HCS) to form a “joint committee dedicated to developing a consensual constitutional basis”.
