Tripoli – Ulrika Richardson, the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, also serves as the Resident Coordinator. On Monday, she met with the Sudanese Ambassador to Libya. They discussed the conditions of Sudanese refugees in Libya. They also reviewed preparations for the 2026 regional response plan for these refugees.
The meeting included representatives from the UNHCR and the IOM in Libya. They addressed the voluntary and safe return of Sudanese refugees. This return would occur when conditions permit. The importance of continued humanitarian assistance during this difficult phase was also emphasized. This is according to the UN mission.
Both parties expressed their appreciation during the meeting. They thanked the Libyan people and authorities. This was for their efforts and generosity. These efforts supported hosting Sudanese refugees.
