Suluq – The municipality of Suluq witnessed an extensive health inspection tour of a number of schools in the region, conducted by the Environmental Sanitation Department in cooperation with the Libyan Red Crescent’s Suluq branch and the Municipal Guard. This comes against the backdrop of a significant increase in cases of respiratory illnesses and viruses recorded among students in recent days. The tour was part of efforts aimed at assessing the health situation within educational institutions and ensuring that necessary preventive measures are taken to reduce the spread of infection among students in an environment characterized by crowding and daily direct contact.
During the health tour, a total of 575 infection cases were recorded in the monitored schools, with the cases distributed according to an official statistic issued by the participating health teams. The number of infections at Sheikh Al-Shuhada School reached 51 cases, while 90 infections were recorded at Ibrahim Al-Jarari School, and 80 cases at Uqba bin Nafi School. Additionally, 40 infections were detected at Sayyida Hafsa School, while Suluq Primary School recorded 38 cases. The number of cases monitored at Abd al-Rahman al-Ghafiqi School was 75. Shoaa Al-Horreya School had the highest number with 118 cases, while Awad Al-Abbar School saw 35 cases, and 48 cases were recorded at Sayyida Aisha School.
Based on the clear results of the inspections, the health and regulatory teams began implementing a series of urgent preventive measures within the schools. These measures included daily monitoring of recorded health cases, directing school administrations to adhere to preventive health instructions inside classrooms, and distributing face masks to school officials to provide to students as needed, in an attempt to limit the transmission of infection in classrooms, hallways, and common areas. Emphasis was also placed on the importance of general hygiene and continuous disinfection of restrooms, classrooms, and student gathering areas.
Meanwhile, health authorities in Suluq issued an official appeal to parents and guardians, urging them to help limit the spread of respiratory diseases by raising their children’s awareness about the importance of adhering to preventive measures. The recommendations stressed the need for regular mask-wearing, observing distancing as much as possible, and paying attention to any health symptoms that may appear in students. They also called for immediate reporting to school administrations or health facilities so that competent authorities can intervene and provide early follow-up on cases, which helps control the worsening of infections and protects the educational environment.
These measures are part of an ongoing health monitoring plan through which the Suluq municipality seeks to curb the spread of seasonal diseases in schools and ensure the continuation of the educational process under safe and healthy conditions that protect the well-being of students, teachers, and all staff in educational institutions.
