Libya’s House of Representatives asked the Supreme Judicial Council not to implement a law on the restructuring of the council’s leadership, said the council’s chairman Muhammad Al-Hafi on Sunday.
Al-Hafi told the press that the Acting Speaker of the House, Fawzi Al-Nuiri, formally addressed the council with this request.
The council’s chairman explained Al-Nuiri justified his decision on grounds that the law “has no constitutional basis.”
Last Tuesday, the House abruptly issued a law to change the presidency of the Supreme Judicial Council. Many criticized the law as politically motivated since the council entrusted on the process of adjudicating and ruling over appeals against candidates for the presidential elections.
