Italy’s Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio, will co-chair a meeting on Libya on Wednesday, September 22, together with his German and French counterparts, Heiko Maas and Jean-Yves Le Drian, respectively, Italian news agency Nova reports.

Citing Libyan sources, Nova stated that the meeting will be held on the sidelines of the 76th United Nations General Assembly, which will be held in New York from 20-25 September.

The United Nations Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) condemned on Tuesday the forced closure of the eastern branch of the Man-Made River, which the Mission says could risk “provoking a humanitarian crisis”.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) denied on Saturday allegations that claim that it allowed the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) to discuss proposals which aim to obstruct the general elections in December. Instead, the U.N. Mission accused the LPDF members of making such proposals for the sake of their own “partisan and particular interest”.

The Inability of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) to reach an agreement on the constitutional basis for the elections “risks resulting in depriving once again the Libyan people of their right to democratically elect their representatives and restore the long-lost legitimacy of Libyan institutions”, said the U.N. Envoy to Libya Jan Kubis on Wednesday.
